lift high the Cross

As we come to the end of the fourth week of Lent, it is hard not to see the Cross looming in the near future. On Sunday, we will hear the story of the raising of Lazarus. Jesus being perturbed at death destroys the hold it has on his friend. This is the foretaste of what he would do for all humanity by his own death and rest in the tomb. No one let him go free on Easter morning; he was freed from death by the power of the Love that flows from the inner life of God himself. He broke the chains of death and destroyed the burial bands that held him captive with his own hands as a sign that he set us free.

Our world needs Jesus today. We need the message of hope and promise that only Jesus has. We can search anywhere we want but only Jesus will we find eternal life and the divine love of the heart of God. He has chosen each of us by name. He died for us and rose for us. He forgives our sins and empowers us. He gave us the freedom to love him with everything we have. I guess I do not understand why so many reject him and his gifts.

May we see the Cross as our hope and guide. As we sing in the hymn: Lift high the Cross! The love of Christ proclaim……    May every Christian join and do these words.
