jeremiah............

Jeremiah never gets a break. He does what God wants and people walk away. He says that God tells him to say and they want to kill him (and try a few times). He talks about faithfulness to the covenant of Sinai and people ignore him. False prophets are able to drown him out with a more comfortable and easier message.

Jesus had the same problem. He came as the eternal witness to the Love of God because he was the Love. He came in poverty to be in solidarity with those who most need God. He preached the values of the Kingdom; values of peace, mercy, pure love, sharing all things equally, nonviolence and charity. Look at how he was treated. Rejected. Shamed. Laughed at. Beaten. Crucified. Thrown into a borrowed tomb. Sealed in with a huge stone. Like Jeremiah, he was silenced. Unlike Jeremiah, He was God and no one can silence God.

Before we throw stones at the First Century, we today in 2026 are doing the same thing. In a “Christian nation,” people are hungry and cold. People are judged because of race, sexual orientation, national origins, are sometimes since as less than. Sometimes the Gospel is distorted to back up false ideas. Violence is justifiable. If you are rich, the God has blessed you and the poor are not. The hungry and vulnerable are not our problem.

We need the ancient prophets back today. We need to be challenged out of our complacency as church (God’s people, not a building). What is one thing you or I can do today to recommit myself to the way of Jesus? Ask him.
