Good measure

Being away from home at seminary, I missed a few things. Stewart’s Ice Cream was one of them. The limited-edition flavors are only available at the counter, like Cherry Loves Chocolate. I prefer the hand-packed pint. As it’s scooped into the container, they keep pushing it down. Just when it looks full, they pack it down even more until it’s packed to maximum capacity, sometimes running over the top. Reflecting on the Gospel, that’s the image that comes to my mind with a good measure, packed together and overflowing. The magnanimous and generous mercy of God cannot be contained and runs over. As we continue our Lenten journey, look at anything in your soul that might get in the way of the fullness of God’s gifts. Make room for the good measure of mercy shared with all those who forgive. Share mercy and forgiveness generously, leaving no room to judge or condemn.
